Terms of Use
Last updated: 14 August 2026By accessing or using epictetus.world ("the Classroom", "the service"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
The service
The Classroom of Epictetus is an AI-assisted educational platform built around dialogue, primary-text retrieval, an Epictetus Library, Classroom-authored Principles and Practices, and authenticated student continuity.
The teaching interface is an AI system. It is not the historical Epictetus and its outputs are not statements attributable to the historical person.
Educational scope
The service is for philosophical and educational use. It does not provide medical, psychological, legal, financial, or other regulated professional advice. Where professional judgment is required, use an appropriately qualified professional.
Accounts and student records
Authenticated students may have an account containing Intake information, session history, messages, and, once enabled, saved passages, notes, or practice progress. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your login credentials and for activity performed through your account.
AI-generated content
AI responses can be incomplete, inaccurate, or unsuitable. Primary-text citations are provided so students can inspect the underlying material rather than rely blindly on generated output. A citation does not guarantee that every interpretive statement made by the AI is historically or philosophically correct.
Primary texts and Classroom content
Public-domain source texts remain subject to their underlying public-domain status. The Classroom's original interface, branding, curriculum structure, Principles, Practices, explanatory copy, and code may be protected by applicable intellectual-property rights.
The service does not claim copyright over public-domain works merely because they are displayed in the Library.
Acceptable use
You must not use the service to:
- break applicable law or violate the rights of another person;
- circumvent authentication, access controls, rate limits, or other security measures;
- probe, attack, overload, or materially disrupt the service or its providers;
- scrape or automate access at a scale that materially burdens the service without permission;
- misrepresent AI-generated material as verified historical quotation when it is not.
Availability and changes
The service is under active development. Features may change, fail, be suspended, or be removed. We do not promise uninterrupted availability.
Payments
Paid access is not active unless the service explicitly presents a live checkout or purchase flow. Before commercial launch, payment, cancellation, refund, consumer-rights, and subscription terms must be published where applicable.
Disclaimers
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without guarantees that AI outputs, retrieved material, or service availability will meet every user's requirements.
Liability
Any limitation or exclusion of liability applies only to the extent permitted by applicable law. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Privacy
Use of the service is also subject to the Privacy Policy, which describes the current account, conversation, AI-provider, Supabase, and Vercel data flow.
Governing terms and consumer rights
Applicable mandatory law, including non-waivable consumer rights where relevant, continues to apply. A final commercial version of these terms must specify the responsible legal entity, governing law, jurisdiction, and any mandatory consumer information before paid launch.
